Question Variations

  1. What does the error message "The click ID or call is associated with an Ads account you don't have access to" mean in Google Ads?
  2. Can you explain why I am encountering the error "The click ID or call is associated with an Ads account you don't have access to" in my Google Ads account?

Applies To

  • Google Ads

Answer

We recently migrated to the Google Ads API. They made some significant changes to the way we need to report conversions. Instead of reporting conversion actions to the Manager Account with the conversion action name, the Google Ads API now requires us to report the conversion action ID. This requires us to report the conversion using the exact Customer ID that owns the conversion action ID.

This means that if a customer manages conversion actions at the sub-account level, we have no idea which Customer ID generated the click, so we must report conversions to all sub-accounts (at least until we see a success for one). Interestingly enough, this is an expected error and not one that needs a resolution unless you do not see a 200 for a given transaction across all the customer IDs we report that transaction to.
